10 things to do if you haven’t received a response from your employer

Be proactive

You should not just wait in the hope of something. Take action. “A squeaky wheel needs to be greased, otherwise it will creak,” says Lynn Taylor, a career expert and author of successful business books. “In the modern labor market, job seekers need not be afraid to take the bull by the horns, be active and assertive.”

Taylor advises on the second day to send a letter to the interviewer with a reminder of himself. “Such a letter will not only remind the employer about you if he suddenly forgot, but also show your interest in this work. This can have a very positive effect on the decision and hiring, if it is still in the process of discussion. In addition to a simple reminder of yourself, it’s good to add a comment and a personal opinion on some fact about the company that you learned after the interview to the letter. So you made inquiries, so the company and work are interesting to you, so you will try. ”
Make a plan

“If you call or write letters too often, it will be both annoying and a sign of despair at the same time. And if you are not interested in the decision, it will look like a complete lack of interest in the position, ”says David Parnell, consultant, communication trainer and publicist. “You need to be consistent in your efforts, define a schedule and stick to it. Set a limit to the number of attempts, if during this time you manage to get feedback - excellent, if not - move on. ”
Be polite

“Behave correctly during a phone call or in a letter, even if you are unhappy,” says Taylor. “Perhaps they still have plans to conduct a series of interviews with other candidates, or a staffing decision is still in the process of discussion, or they decided that you’d better go to another position and are now resolving this issue. The hiring decision is an important decision and sometimes it takes more time to make it. ”
Take advantage of social networks

“Look for the people who work for this company on social networks. Analyze what they write about, maybe they are mentioned about the company's affairs or plans, ”says Amy Hoover, head of the recruiting information site. “Often people are happy to meet, you will be surprised how often. To get help, first of all you need to ask for it. Find out how the hiring process is going, at what stage, etc. ”
Analyze the reaction before taking the next step.

“Try to determine the results of the interview before it is completed,” Tyler advises. “If communication with a company representative was warm enough, then, of course, it makes sense to re-apply. And if the conversation was not pleasant, then you can not waste your time. Sometimes the lack of an answer is also an answer. ”
Move up the chain

“The opinion of HR managers may not always coincide with the opinion of senior employees of the company,” says Parnell. “If after a number of attempts you still can’t get a definite answer from the HR manager, move up the food chain. Having reached, for example, the head of the department to which you are recruiting, you are more likely to get an answer, or arrange for a second interview. In any case, the probability of putting an end to this and stop tormenting yourself will increase many times over. ”
Listen to your intuition and be realistic

“Failure is always hard to accept, and often we hope for the best by misleading ourselves,” says Parnell. “You need to think rationally. “Maybe they have not received my last 10 letters? They probably have some problems with telephony or their bosses have gone abroad! ”Do not be fooled, it is better to spend time looking for a new job than for vain illusions.”

Taylor agrees: “If you are ignored, put an end to it, and do not feed on vain hopes. Learn to read between the lines. You still have so much to do. Put your energy in the right direction. ”
Keep your employer informed

“Watch for changes in the field of potential employer. And when you call or write to find out how the hiring decision is moving, tell us what you learned about the latest actions of your competitors, what new ways of doing things companies in the related field have begun to practice to achieve results, what new program has come out that can help you work and etc., ”advises Parnell. “So you show that you have already begun work, that you are already wholeheartedly with them. It will mean a lot. ”
Do not take it too personally

“If you are not contacted, then you should not take it to heart, and even more so as a personal insult or hostility to your person,” says Taylor. “Companies select staff based on a variety of factors, and each company can have its own. In addition to the reasons why you were not contacted, there are reasons why you did not personally approach them. This may not be related to your skills or personality. Therefore, continue the search, do not get angry, do not be offended, and do not reproach yourself. ”
